Bake sale
A first for my girlies: their first ever BAKE SALE!
Maddie and Faith have been wanting to sell "drinks and sweets" for the longest time now. The other day they saw a cute gray and white cat outside, and got the idea of having a bake sale to raise money to feed the cat. The seed was planted in their mind about having a bake sale a long time ago, and the cat gave them that little bit of motivation to go ahead and make it happen. I couldn't say 'no' to the idea after they spent that night making 22 posters (literally) that said there would be a bake sale on Saturday.
Well, Saturday wouldn't work because I had to work. But, I told them we could do it Sunday. So, they posted a few signs on the way to Maddie's school last Thursday, and of course our neighbors knew about it. Sharon was so sweet and made orange rice krispie treats, and Rhonda made cookies. My big helpers and I stayed up until 10pm last night making cheesecake brownies (out of a box- we cheated, but they are Madison's favorite), strawberry cream cheese cupcakes, and fancy pretzel rods (dipped in melted chocolate-- Maddie did white, and Faith did chocolate-- and then dipped in sprinkles). They also wanted to make the cups fancy and put colored sugar crystals on the rims of all of them (the glasses for the lemonade were quite a hit!). Needless to say, we were all wiped out after all that baking last night, and yet they were ready to go by 8:45am!!
They started at 9am this morning, and went until 11:30am. It was a wonderful day. They had so much fun. All of their customers were either Dan or our neighbors, but we did have two little boys come up on their scooters asking "is this where the bake sale is?" It was precious! Maddie was so excited that someone had seen their signs! They handed out stickers to every customer and free bookmarks.
During their break from all the buying action, they were busy painting nails and toenails (even Dave!) in their self-appointed "salon."
They made a respectable $28.10 and are now torn between Maddie still wanting to find the stray cat and buy it a collar, bowl, and cat food and Faith wanting to donate to the library to help them buy more books! They're too funny.
Today was a day that made me smile the whole day. My girls are blessed with wonderful childhood memories that I hope they'll be able to reflect upon later on down the road.
